It is every Webmasters dream or aspiration to get his or
her web site at the top of the pile in the World's Leading Search
Engines.
Top Search Results:
To achieve top search engine results, requires a
considerable number of
elements to be planned and thought out. The biggest problem for all
forms of web hosting and design with reference to web site ranking are
limited by the technology of the day, the architecture of how the World
Wide Web is set out and what I call human and technology logical
conundrums.
A brief History of
Reciprocal Links in The 90's:
Lets go back a few years in relation to this subject and
project. Back in the early to mid 1990's there was a big thing about
what was known as 'Reciprocal Links'. As is very often the case,
reciprocal links were never really clearly defined or understood. It
was either geek language from a member of planet zogg or a Janet and
John explanation of 'We place your link on our web page and you place a
link on yours'. Unfortunately through desperation to get higher in the
search engine rankings Webmasters of all levels and size of service
bought into this idea. You would come across web sites with dedicated
reciprocal link pages and at the foot of web sites were hundreds of
buttons of all types and sizes.
Optimizing For Technology
Of The Day:
As a perfectionist when it comes to creative design, a
title of a page starts to frustrate me in layout and design and sad as
I am, I have spent months and years in the past scribing my ideas,
putting them into reality, only to achieve within myself disappointment.
For the good of the net I have continued to research and
develop in the creation of 'The Perfect Web Page' the problem however,
that exists is that the perfect web page can become a disadvantage in
relation to the constraints on current technology, especially in the
field of Data Mining pertaining to search engines.
10 Years On The Top Search
Engines:
Some 10 years ago I could accurately provide with a list
of the top 20 search engines that conducted virtually all global
searches. The percentage market share of just these 20 search engines
amounted to some 97.4%
It was therefore imperative and regardless of time and
energy to get your web site listed in those. This had to be done
successfully by manual input.
The geographical landscape has again changed today.
Where there used to be some 20 search engines alike, today there has
evolved a tier structure similar to football leagues and so I will use
this as an example.
In our Premier League
Table we have;-

Ask.Com
In our Division Two League the
Championship we have;-
AOL
ODP
AltaVista
Lycos

In the Championship Division 1,
you have more general or not so
specialized search engines services. These may cover only business,
technology, hotels etc...

A Changing Landscape:
The interesting factor and the change of geography has further
confirmed
to me, that there would come a point where these services became
either a content provider, or search delivery service.
The landscape is
only in a transitional stage as yet, eventually broadcasting media
organizations will become one environment, in relation to content
providers
and swallow up the smaller operations.
The second being with reference to the search delivery
environment, and the
takeover and merging of smaller search engines, that is currently
taking
place and under way.
The Big Four:
So, the top 4 search engines, have either a financial
interest, or
part ownership, or are now the dependent search engine delivery data
content
provider for all of the rest of the search engines in the second tier.
This being the championship league division 1.
So in effect, if you can successfully get your web site
registered in the top four search engines, the information and data of
your web site will eventually be transferred to the others.
The Plus and Minus
Syndrome:
As like in everyone of life's eventualities, there is a
plus and minus aspect.
The eventual likelihood to be registered in the
top 4 will be through a subscription and payment method. This is now
happening regards to some of the afore mentioned services.
The minus aspect to this is, that deserving
personal web sites with some fascinating content and information may
not get
registered, as a result of financial outlay.
The double edged sword
scenario, for the search engines however, Is whilst being at the top of
the pile they require the best of the net to retain their users
including the high quality content personal web sites.

As a search engine data mines the World Wide Web, it
will collect unique key data of existing web sites. There is also a
hierarchy here in relation to long standing members of the community
with web sites and services, that come under the invisible banner of
Primary Flag sites and founder members.
With the reciprocal links of the past, the idea years
ago was not a bad one,
but not clearly explained and effectively designed in relation to the
architecture and framework of the day.
Working With The
Technology:
The environment and technology in relation to how far it has come, or
what you are restricted by at that time has a significant impact.
If for example
you enter into a link with a web site owner who sends unsolicited
emails and basically in short, a pain in the neck to the web
community.
There is every chance that the Domain and IP address, is
listed on a black server.
If your link is picked up from that site, it
will also be affected and very easily tarnished with the same brush and
also placed on the black server.
In this eventuality, forget the web
site and even the idea, as you are dead and buried with the web site
you wish to launch or promote.

Spidering The Sites:
