Advertising Issues - One Step
Forward and Two Back:
As like in all technology and life in general, we juggle
on the see-saw, trying to stay focused, to avoid one extreme to
another. Since being a Senior Developer for the World Wide Web since
it's beginning, I have not had to learn codes of ethics or standards
with regards to what I believe and know to be common decency.
Sadly I only have one pair of hands, but I am concerned
that browser bundles are going to an extreme, with reference to
blocking of adverts.
I can understand POP Ups, as I was one of the biggest
supporters in seeing the demise of them and warned AOL how many years
back it will set the Company, with the introduction of them.
How right I was, even today, Time Warner are still not
clear or concise to the direction of AOL.
If advertisements do not jump out at you, and part of a web page. What
the hell, they are an essential revenue stream for many.
All browser bundles need to be re-evaluate in respect of
this problem of concern, and future builds, should be more explicit, in
the advertisement programme forms that are regarded as ethical or not.
I have always maintained a high standard and code of ethics with every
single Internet business or web site I have been associated with, our
advertisers are the very best on the net, and by their support, we can
continue to provide free services.
Our advertisers promotions and sizes, are calculated as
one of the essential parts of a web pages design and layout.
I believe advertisements can be complimentary.
I would be grateful for web users comments as we continue our path of
the web community development.
